About The Position

Ultrasound Technologist performs highly skilled technical work in diagnostic ultrasound using complex equipment for specialized and/or technically difficult examinations.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited program in Ultrasound Technology is required.
  • ARDMS registered. Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 must obtain the required ARDMS certification by 12/31/2017. Employees hired AFTER 2/1/2017 who have completed training must obtain their required certification within six months of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Scans patients while maintaining all safety precautions and ensuring care appropriate to age-specific needs.
  • Reviews and gathers relevant clinical information from patient charts and electronic records while upholding safety standards.
  • Develops films in the absence of the Medical Surgical Technologist.
  • Documents all completed procedures in the HIS system and logs them daily with technician initials.
  • Escorts patients into and out of examination rooms.
  • Transports patients to various areas within the X-ray department as needed.
  • Performs portable imaging exams.
  • Performs or assists radiologists during operating room procedures.
  • Provides preliminary impressions to physicians when official reports are not yet available in the system.
  • Explains exam preparation requirements to patients and nursing staff, ensuring instructions align with age-specific and safety considerations (e.g., NPO, hydration for pelvic exams).
  • Assists radiologists with special procedures and prepares necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor promptly.
  • Cleans and prepares examination rooms after each patient, adhering to Infection Control Policies, Procedures, and Universal Precautions.
  • Participates in training ultrasound students, residents, and fellows.
  • Reviews CQI Quarterly Reports during section meetings and contributes ideas for continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintains knowledge of growth and development principles across all patient age groups.
  • Assesses patient data and interprets information to determine patient needs.
  • Maintains active CPR certification.
  • Follows all unit-specific policies, procedures, and competency checklist requirements.
  • Operates job-specific and unit-specific equipment safely and effectively.

  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.
