About The Position

The Ultrasound Technologist performs independently and demonstrates self-initiative under indirect supervision. This role involves producing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound images while maintaining exceptional patient care, professionalism, and confidentiality. The technologist is expected to adhere to established safety standards and organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Ultrasound Program is required
  • Current Mississippi State Board of Health Medical Radiation Technologist License required
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required
  • Understand human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology relevant to ultrasound
  • Maintain accuracy in imaging technique and patient positioning
  • Use critical thinking and ethical judgment in all aspects of job performance
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team
  • Remain current with continuing education and technical skills
  • Apply strong attention to detail and computer literacy
  • Use proper body mechanics and safely assist with moving/lifting patients or equipment
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as prolonged standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling
  • Remain composed and effective in high-stress environments
  • Demonstrate reliability, consistent attendance, and compliance with facility policies

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an AMA-approved Radiology Program is preferred
  • ARRT (R.T.) certification preferred
  • Certification in Physics/Abdominal Ultrasound preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound exams as ordered, in accordance with departmental and SCRMC protocols
  • Verify physician orders to ensure accuracy of provider, exam type, and clinical indication
  • Confirm patient identity prior to conducting exams
  • Assist radiologists and physicians during ultrasound procedures
  • Participate in educational training on new equipment and procedures
  • Ensure completion of all required paperwork and system documentation (e.g., RIS/PACS)
  • Transport patients to and from the department when necessary
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area
  • Evaluate and ensure image quality, proper orientation, and patient identification
  • Adhere to all radiation safety, infection control, and facility policies
  • Provide clear patient education regarding the procedure and report timeline
  • Contribute to the orientation and clinical evaluation of students and new employees
  • Assist with cross-training and scheduling of ultrasound exams
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and communicate effectively with the team leader
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operation of ultrasound imaging equipment
