Position Highlights: Logistics: Pay: $49.21 – $54.30 Contract Type: 1-year base and 4, 1-year option periods Schedule: Eight (8) hour shift, nine (9) hour shift, or ten (10) hour shift. Location: Portland, OR

Requirements

• Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship
• Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen/Small Parts and at least two separate certifications, such as RVT, OB/GYN, Muscular Skeletal, etc
• BCLS certification and demonstrate expertise in ultrasounds of scrotum, pelvis and U/S guided biopsy, including liver and renal biopsies of native and transplanted organs, renal artery stenosis and renal Doppler
• 3+ years of hospital experience within the United States
• Must have worked within a hospital setting as an Ultrasound Tech in the last six months
• Provide evidence of current professional liability insurance
• Be available to work for the VA at least six (6) months after starting date
• Must have worked within a hospital lab setting as a Vascular Ultrasound Tech in the last six months
• If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience with the VA is a plus

Responsibilities

• Perform standard and complex ultrasound examinations, including examinations of the abdomen, liver, renal, GYN, and small parts scanning
• Perform computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, complications and/or quality improvement activities
• Responsible for the quality assurance of the image positioning/label/technique/network information) prior to transmission to the PAC's (Picture archiving communication system) network
• Schedule exams in a manner to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases
• Confer with radiologists to determine the requirement of nonstandard exams
• Practice radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self
• Maintain records and files of exams performed on patients
• Properly identifies patient images. This is essential so that mistaken identity of patient images does not occur. The technician must be certain that the patient I.D. band and the request are identical
• Explain exams to competent patients so that patients understand what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible
• Perform irregular hour emergency scans on standby/on call, 24 hours per day, coverage
• Works independently and reports any unusual problems or conflicts to the Imaging Chief Technologist
