The Ultrasound Technologist is fully competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the Diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions. Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Competent in the technical operations of all equipment in this section Assess patients, review orders/chart as appropriate confirming reason for exam Ensure pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed Prepare patients for procedure, answer any questions and effectively communicate with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol Responsible for prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist Provide safe environment to include infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals Monitor the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement Perform QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation Participate in the clinical education of student sonographers Participate in department’s Performance Improvement Projects Other duties as assigned
