About The Position

The Ultrasound Technologist position at Long Island Community Hospital is a part-time role focused on providing high-quality ultrasound imaging services during night shifts. The technologist will apply sonic energy to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of patients, demonstrating a commitment to patient care and medical ethics while working in a supportive community hospital environment.

Requirements

• Registered or Registry Eligible with the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers).
• Completion of a two-year approved Ultrasound Diagnostic School.
• Approximately three to six months of on-the-job training.
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Corroborates patients' clinical history with procedures by ensuring information is documented and available for review by a radiologist.
• Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting patient ability and comfort.
• Verifies informed consent for and assists a licensed practitioner during interventional procedures such as needle localizations, aspirations, biopsies, and amniocentesis.
• Applies aseptic surgical techniques during procedures.
• Evaluates requisition by identifying patient, procedures to be performed, and checking chart or RX for order.
• Verifies pertinent clinical history and reason for exam, determining utilization of appropriate protective equipment.
• Evaluates images and data for technical quality by selecting and operating ultrasound equipment to achieve desired results.
• Assumes responsibility for the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures, exercising precaution in patient applications.
• Provides patient care by verifying patient identification, introducing themselves, and explaining the procedure.
• Maintains patient dignity and modesty through proper gowning and covering for the patient.
