About The Position

The Ultrasound Tech is responsible for operating highly sophisticated equipment to perform a variety of non-invasive ultrasound scans on various parts and systems of the body. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Requirements

• Associates degree from an accredited school of Ultrasound/Sonography or completion of an accredited sonography program.
• Six months to a year of on the job clinical experience and training.
• Technologists are required to be registry eligible or registered ARDMS in OB/GYN and Abdomen (which includes Physics board exam).
• BLS required within 6-12 months after hire. Some positions may require additional certifications.
• Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with record keeping in the department.
• Must demonstrate excellent human relation skills to deal with patients, physicians and others in sometimes difficult or sensitive situations, including verbal and written communication, problem solving and assertiveness.
• Must have a customer service orientation.
• Must demonstrate leadership and organization skills including the ability to work independently and take initiative within established procedures.
• Must demonstrate a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Receives or escorts patients into examination area; reviews pertinent patient information; instructs patient concerning the examination to be performed.
• Positions patients to obtain and effect the results specified for diagnoses.
• In consultation with radiologist performs optimum diagnostic ultrasound scans using high frequency ultrasound machines designed to image organs, masses, and fluid accumulations within the body to provide diagnostic information for interpretation by physician.
• Operates all equipment properly and with care and regularly performs maintenance and quality control work. Immediately reports any malfunctions, necessary adjustments or repairs.
• Performs first aid as required and assists in cases of adverse reaction to contrast media or in other emergencies.
• Observes and practices sterile technique to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.
• Maintains cleanliness of procedure rooms and equipment.
• Maintains accurate documentation of patient and file information.
• Maintains appropriate supply level in their areas of responsibility.
• Demonstrates or oversees the on the job training for student technologists and other non-professional assistants as assigned.
• Demonstrates or oversees the on the job training for Ultrasound Technologists that have been newly hired or need additional training needs for new procedures.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service when answering the phone.
