About The Position

Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162-bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center. San Luis Obispo offers the excitement of a lively community while being a fifteen-minute drive from the serenity of Avila Beach, known for their natural hot springs, and Pismo Beach, known for their sand dunes and eucalyptus trees. Featuring a charming downtown, comfortable coastal weather, idyllic views, and an active lifestyle San Luis Obispo offers much to be had. The position involves performing outpatient ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. The role includes producing images of internal body tissues in order to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions such as heart disease, pregnancy, and cancer.

Requirements

  • Certificate or Diploma from approved ultrasound school: Required
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification within one year of hire: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in radiologic technology or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor's): Preferred
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Sonography: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Uses ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient’s body and capture quality images that describe the composition, shape and motion of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology.
  • Summarizes, documents, verifies and presents images, findings, calculations and measurements to physicians for diagnoses.
  • Adheres to ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, precautions and standards.
  • Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate.
  • Positions patients and equipment, prepares patients for procedures and continually monitors and records vital signs.
  • Observes for reactions and signs of impending complications and intervenes as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records, files and billing information.
  • Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Prepares rooms and patients for subsequent ultrasound procedures.
  • Verifies operational status of equipment prior to daily utilization.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
