About The Position

The University of Miami is seeking a full-time staff member for the Vascular Lab at UM Hospital UTower. This position involves coordinating and managing scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures, supervising and performing diagnostic imaging studies under the direction of a Clinical Vascular lab Attending or Fellow. The role includes assisting with the education and training of new physicians, developing new protocols and ultrasound imaging techniques, and participating in research initiatives. The staff member will also monitor the charging of ultrasound procedures and supplies, demonstrate ultrasound equipment for site visits, and ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular accredited program.
  • Vascular Ultrasound Certification RVT (Registered Vascular Tech) by ARDMS or RVS (Registered Vascular Sonographer) by CCI.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the direction of a Clinical Vascular lab Attending or Fellow.
  • Assist with the education and training of new physicians.
  • Assist Clinical Vascular Attendings and PhDs in developing new protocols and ultrasound imaging techniques.
  • Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
  • Act in a team leader capacity on a routine basis.
  • Monitor charging of ultrasound procedures and supplies daily.
  • Demonstrate ultrasound equipment for site visits.
  • Provide in-service classes in the section.
  • Obtain and examine the order for an ultrasound scan.
  • Ensure orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by the physician.
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing rapport with patients.
  • Verify the patient’s ID and obtain necessary consents.
  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of ultrasound scanners.
  • Adhere to ultrasound protocols to maintain high quality standards.
  • Assist in positioning patients for ultrasound scans.
  • Maintain proper aseptic technique.
  • Prepare contrast for use and obtain patient history.
  • Administer contrast protocol.
  • Evaluate ultrasound scans for technical quality and accuracy.
  • Schedule patients for procedures and assist with clerical functions.
  • Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
  • Provide assistance with orientation and training to new vascular technologists.
  • Perform basic nursing functions in patient care.
  • Report unusual findings in a timely manner.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations within the department.
