About The Position

The Ultrasound Technician performs and evaluates ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with Centers for Pain Control protocols as directed by physicians. The Ultrasound Technician reports to the Ultrasound Team Supervisor for support and additional request as required. This role involves maintaining equipment and examination rooms, managing supplies, ensuring patient confidentiality, and working collaboratively within the department and with all other departments. The technician is responsible for patient identification, consent verification, medical record review, preparing the Operating Room, ensuring a safe environment, monitoring patients during sedation, assisting with patient positioning, handling specimens, and preparing patients for transport to the Recovery Room. Safety and sanitation are paramount, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), cleaning spills, sterilizing probes, and maintaining sterilization logs. Professional development is encouraged through mandatory staff meetings and in-services, active participation in performance improvement activities, and establishing professional goals. The position requires demonstrating safe and cost-effective practices, adhering to OSHA guidelines, utilizing proper body mechanics, accurately completing incident reports, and allocating resources to reduce waste. Daily hours are subject to change.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record
  • Good typing skills
  • Good internet navigation skills
  • Knowledge of instrumentation used in office (fax, credit card, copy)
  • Knowledge of multi-line phone system
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology with a strong focus on the spine and skeletal system
  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a sonographer
  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound Technology program/degree required
  • Current ARDMS Certification
  • ARDMS Certification RVT (VT) RDCS (AE)
  • CPR Certification (BLS)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced work environment with established time constraints
  • Ability to work overtime when required
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Ability to act calmly and effectively in busy, stressful or emergency situations

Responsibilities

  • Perform and evaluate ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with Centers for Pain Control protocols as directed by physicians
  • Report to the Ultrasound Team Supervisor for support and additional request as required
  • Instruct patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results
  • Follow prescribed safety standards in operating equipment
  • Maintain ultrasound and vascular lab equipment in appropriate operating condition
  • Maintain examination rooms and work areas
  • Inventory, order request and stock all vascular lab supplies
  • Maintain accurate department records, reports and files as directed
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Work as a team member within the ultrasound department and all other departments
  • Document work processes as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times as evidenced by observation

  • Review medical records for appropriate information as specified in the company policies & procedures
  • Prepare the Operating Room for the patient by obtaining proper equipment and supplies for intraoperative care as evidenced by documentation and observation
  • Ensure a safe environment for the patient by following proper aseptic techniques, care and operation of all surgical and emergency equipment as observed
  • Monitor all patients receiving conscious sedation or local anesthesia according to established policies and procedures
  • Assist in properly positioning the patient on the procedure table
  • Record, handle, and label specimens as documented
  • Assist with dressings and prepare patient for transport to the Recovery Room
  • Initiate lifesaving measures, such as CPR, in emergency situations as observed
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when in contact with the patient, bodily fluids or hazardous materials
  • Wear lead when radiological equipment in use
  • Clean and sanitize any spills immediately
  • Maintain a safe environment for the employees and patients at all times
  • Sterilize probes after each use
  • Maintain sterilization logs and maintenance of small sterilizers
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings per year unless excused as evidenced by documentation
  • Attend mandatory in-services and a minimum of two pertinent in-services per year as documented
  • Actively participate in performance improvement activities as observed or documented
  • Establish realistic professional goals as evidenced by the annual performance evaluation
  • Actively keep abreast of departmental and organizational activities
  • Demonstrate flexibility in response to unexpected change in workload or situations as observed
