The Ultrasound Tech operates complex equipment to produce high quality sonograms. This individual collaborates with the physician, the manager, and the staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating department procedures and protocols. This position has direct patient care, access to confidential patient information and makes decisions independently and in collaboration with the physician, the manager and the staff. Works under the indirect supervision of the physician. Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care and performs routine diagnostic sonograms and assessments in accordance with organizational policies, radiation performance standards, and standards of practice. Accurately performs data collection such as standard vital signs in a timely manner for all patients requiring care, keeping in mind the growth and developmental needs of the patient. Assists the physician with exams as required. Performs sonographic procedures under the supervision of the provider and performs other duties that assist in the smooth performance of the facility. Demonstrates knowledge of departmental policies regarding sonographic safety while using ultrasound equipment. Maintains quality standards of equipment, shielding, and surroundings, as well as supplies per the existing service agreements and the state Department of Health. Performs clerical duties as necessary including, but not limited to, filing, computer data entry, registration, documentation of charges.
