About The Position

Independently performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures and ultrasound directed interventional procedures utilizing proper techniques and protocols. Works under their scope of practice and in accordance with registry in the operation of equipment. Coordinates patient flow and the activities of the Ultrasound Department. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of duties in order to maintain equipment in good working condition. May perform procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs. May have on call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Allied Health, area of study in Ultrasonography
  • Credentialed in Ultrasound technology by one of the following:
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Vascular Credentialed by one of the following:
  • ARDMS- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
  • CCI (RVS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International, Registered Vascular Specialist
  • Minimum of one additional registry in practiced specialties are required as approved by ARDMS: Abdomen, OB/GYN, muscular skeletal, Neurosonology, Breast
  • CPR Certification required within 30 days of hire
  • No prior job-related work experience
  • Proficient in performing diagnostic procedures and obtaining diagnostic images for physician interpretation
  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Proficient in Radiology Information System (RIS) and Image Storage
  • Advanced US applications
  • Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds
  • May be exposed to aggressive, violent behaviors from patients, family members, and/or visitors
  • May be exposed to blood and body fluids, including those with tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, or body infestations
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions which may occur in emergency situations or with a heavy workload

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or graduate of an accredited program
  • 2 years of experience in Ultrasound

Responsibilities

  • Performs US procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician and/or radiologist on patients of all ages according to established protocols and evaluates Ultrasound studies for technical image quality.
  • Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the US procedure.
  • Performs daily and weekly QC as required.
  • Practices sterile technique as required.
  • Assists Radiologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations.
  • Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction
  • Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam.
  • Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.
  • Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.
  • Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.
