And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day. The Supervisor, Ultrasound oversees the day-to-day activities of the Ultrasound area. The Supervisor is responsible for the operation of diagnostic ultrasound equipment for the performance of all dynamic ultrasound imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of and graduation from a formal ultrasound technology program in an AMA-approved school.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or eligible. Must be CPR certified and keep certification current.
  • Ability to direct, lead and motivate staff.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, basic principles of diagnostic medical ultrasound, patient care and preparation, legal and ethical aspects of ultrasonographic practice, departmental protocols, and diagnostic protocols.
  • Outstanding oral communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to explain procedures and results to patients while keeping them safe, relaxed and comfortable.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed written notes for charts and other documentation.
  • Strong mathematical and scientific skills to analyze information.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound scanning equipment and probes.
  • Ability to follow procedures and policies.
  • Ability to process, review and evaluate images or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Ability to record, process and maintain detailed and accurate patient data, and medical histories. Prepares all documentation in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work effectively collaborate with medical staff, personnel, students, and patients.
  • Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.
  • A minimum of 4 years clinical ultrasound experience plus lead or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
  • Recommends and assists in managing budgets for the areas managed.
  • Coordinates the assignment of tasks for the efficient utilization of available resources.
  • Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation.
  • Obtains scans per physician orders in an efficient, timely manner, according to departmental policy and procedures.
