Produces two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by physicians in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs by performing the following duties.
Selects appropriate equipment/transducer for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination/protocol.
Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test.
Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs department exam protocols.
Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
Accurately enters required data into Lumedx (PACS) system.
Completes and participates in Quality Improvement evaluation as needed/assigned.
Starts equipment, which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film.
Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record of internal examination.
Disinfects equipment and area.
Participates in training of Washburn University students as directed.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care. (If applicable)
Cardiac Sonographers Perform IV puncture, utilizing proper injection techniques while injecting endocardial border enhancing agents.
Rotating call is a requirement of the position. (Manhattan/Emporia exempt from call)
Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed.
Displays a professional appearance.

Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program through an accredited organization or on the job training in ultrasound that led to registry.
Customer service experience.
Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - ARDMS ARDMS-Sonography or CCI-Sonography or ARRT-Sonography are also accepted dependent upon department.
Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 90 days of hire.
