Produces two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by physicians in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs by performing the following duties.

  • Selects appropriate equipment/transducer for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination/protocol.
  • Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test.
  • Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and performs department exam protocols.
  • Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
  • Accurately enters required data into Lumedx (PACS) system.
  • Completes and participates in Quality Improvement evaluation as needed/assigned.
  • Starts equipment, which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film.
  • Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record of internal examination.
  • Disinfects equipment and area.
  • Participates in training of Washburn University students as directed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and performs proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care. (If applicable)
  • Cardiac Sonographers Perform IV puncture, utilizing proper injection techniques while injecting endocardial border enhancing agents.
  • Rotating call is a requirement of the position. (Manhattan/Emporia exempt from call)
  • Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed.
  • Displays a professional appearance.

  • Maintains CEUS for certification and seeks opportunities to improve knowledge base by attending departmental meetings, in-services, and other educational activities.
  • Travel to satellite locations as necessary.
  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program through an accredited organization or on the job training in ultrasound that led to registry.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - ARDMS ARDMS-Sonography or CCI-Sonography or ARRT-Sonography are also accepted dependent upon department.
  • Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience in Ultrasound
  • Experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Experience utilizing imaging equipment
