The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Senior Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Anesthesia Technician Specialist to provide specialized veterinary clinical care to all species housed in ULAR managed facilities. This role requires minimal supervision and involves triaging and assessing animal health, providing immediate care to emergency cases, and performing weekly wellness checks in rodent facilities. The technician will administer medications through various routes, maintain animal health records, and utilize knowledge of pharmacology and drug calculations. Additionally, the position involves operating sterilization equipment, preparing surgical instrument packs, and performing facility cleaning and maintenance. The technician will also provide care to critical animals in surgical recovery and consult with clinical veterinary staff on treatment options. The role includes collecting specimens for diagnostic testing and preparing bills for treatments and medications used in clinical care. Familiarity with IACUC protocols is essential, ensuring compliance with approved protocols and documentation requirements. For the anesthesia aspect of the position, the technician will provide anesthesia services, including IV catheter placement, intubation, and evaluation of anesthetic depth. The technician will also assist with aseptic surgery, ensuring sterile conditions are maintained during procedures. The position requires working hours from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, typically Monday through Friday, with holiday and weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
