About The Position
The State of Ohio – Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking an experienced UI/UX Programmer 5 to design and deliver modern, intuitive user interfaces for enterprise applications. This is a fully onsite role at the Shipley Building in Columbus, Ohio. The selected consultant will work closely with business users, IT leadership, project managers, and development teams in an Agile environment , following a strong user-centered design approach . The role involves end-to-end UI/UX responsibilities including research, prototyping, design systems, and collaboration with backend developers. A portfolio demonstrating UI/UX work is required and must be presented during the interview process.
Requirements
- 8+ years experience translating UI requirements into functional graphical interfaces
- 8+ years experience designing intuitive site architecture and navigation
- 8+ years experience working in Agile development environments
- 8+ years experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, and Fluent UI Framework
- 5+ years experience using Figma or similar design tools
- 5+ years experience delivering products end-to-end with cross-functional teams
- 5+ years experience with ASP.NET MVC and C#
- Strong understanding of secure UI design and coding practices
- Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and facilitation skills

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders, business users, and engineering teams to gather and define UI requirements
- Design wireframes, interactive prototypes, and intuitive user experiences for complex business processes
- Participate in all phases of the product lifecycle: discovery, research, design, testing, and iteration
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and design validation
- Develop and maintain reusable Design System libraries
- Ensure seamless UI handoff to development teams
- Integrate front-end components with backend systems
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog grooming and sprint planning
- Ensure UI designs comply with security standards and best practices
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to technical staff
- Lead and manage large design initiatives while balancing competing priorities
