About The Position

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center (UHCC), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Telework (from employee's residence on the island of Oahu) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science, Statistics, or related area.
  • Five to seven (5-7) years of progressively responsible experience in systems planning and computer programming.
  • Considerable programming experience with a programming language such as Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), Structured Query Language (SQL), or Visual Basic.
  • Strong working knowledge of electronic data processing practices in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Statistics or related area.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and techniques.
  • Experience working with Epidemiologic research data.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, integrates, and administers programs to manage a large data warehouse of new genomics and bio specimen data as well as existing large dietary and epidemiologic databases.
  • Writes complex queries for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Defines procedures for data management to ensure complex data from diverse sources can be integrated and shared.
  • Defines procedures to assure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Directly assists supervisor in developing and maintaining a strategic plan for data management.
  • Works to further cancer research by facilitating the dissemination of information within and outside the project.
  • Ensures that all investigators and staff associated with the project are appropriately provided with data from the informatics activities.
  • Oversees staff and student data management tasks.
  • Consults with staff members and faculty to determine course of action when problems arise.
  • Attends staff and programmer meetings as required.
  • Serves on planning committees for data management development.
