About The Position

The UET INSTRUCTOR PROVIDES FORMAL CLASSROOM ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION, AND IN-WATER PRACTICAL APPLICATION, ON THE SAFE UNDERWATER USE OF COMPRESSED AIR EMERGENCY BREATHING DEVICES AND UNDERWATER EGRESS FROM A VARIETY OF SUBMERGED TRAINING DEVICES.

Requirements

  • Must be Certified Rescue Diver through PADI or NAUI. Any other certifying organizations will require government approval.
  • Cardiopulmonary (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification from either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association (or capable of completing the training to receive the certification)
  • Divers Alert Network (DAN) certified instruction in Identification of Compressed Air Injuries, Neurological Examinations and 02 Administration for Diving Injuries from a nationally certified organization (or capable of completing the training to receive the certification)
  • American Red Cross or American Lifeguard Association certified lifeguard (or capable of completing the training to receive the certification)
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS office products specifically word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Additionally, should be able to use the Internet at an intermediate level of proficiency to complete required annual on-line training and perform basic research on topics such as academic presentation techniques and underwater egress developments.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to orally communicate clearly and persuasively in both a large formal classroom environment and one-on-one. Manage difficult or emotional student situations and personal emotions; listening and providing feedback to ensure and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and provide solutions, often in a time-constrained underwater setting. May work independently, or with moderate to limited supervision based on experience level.
  • Must be able to pass DOD installation vetting
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and constantly changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom instruction on the theories of underwater egress, equipment familiarization and the safe use of compressed air emergency breathing devices.
  • Instructs and supervises students during underwater egress practical application exercises and the use of compressed air emergency breathing devices underwater.
  • Performs and documents routine maintenance and daily pre and post operational checks of various submerged training devices and the associated overhead lifting systems.
  • Operates overhead lifting device to raise and lower various submerged training devices with and without personnel aboard in and out of the water.
  • Rescues students in danger of drowning and administers first aid as needed.
  • Utilizes SCUBA equipment to assist students and staff underwater as needed.
  • Performs and documents routine maintenance of underwater emergency breathing devices.
  • Re-packs CO2 activated life preserver units.
  • Determines chlorine content and pH value of water using water testing kit and records reading.
  • Maintains order in pool and pool areas.
  • Inspect and assemble standard SCUBA equipment.
  • Operate a high pressure compressed air fill station.
  • Inspects facilities for cleanliness, cleans pool and pool areas including locker rooms.
  • Assists in the overall maintenance effort for general tasks that do not require specific certifications.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
