About The Position

The High School Language Arts Instructor will be responsible for teaching English I, II, III, and IV as part of the Upward Bound Program. This role involves conducting integrated academic language arts classes, teaching students learning strategies, and utilizing various educational tools and aids. The instructor will also assist in planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring activities, complete necessary paperwork, and report on student progress and issues. Additionally, the instructor will help train and evaluate Teacher Assistants.

Requirements

• Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level.
• Complete a background clearance check.
• Ability to plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive instructional tutoring program.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in the designated discipline.
• Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school, or post-secondary level.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Conduct an integrated academic language arts class for English I, II, III, and IV.
• Teach students learning strategies.
• Conduct teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment and learning aids.
• Prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class.
• Assist with planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring and problem-solving activities.
• Complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management.
• Make recommendations on students' strengths and needs.
• Report student learning and behavioral issues to appropriate staff personnel.
• Assist with training and evaluation of Teacher Assistants.
• Attend training and meetings as required.
• Provide 24-hour notice in case of absence and prepare classroom work for students.
• Transport students between class locations while ensuring their safety.
