About The Position

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Libraries is seeking a creative and collaborative Reference Librarian to serve as the liaison to the School of Public Health. This full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position involves providing a wide range of research, scholarly, and instructional support to faculty, staff, and students within the School of Public Health. The role emphasizes instructional services, reference support, and engagement in research and scholarship, contributing to the library's mission of enhancing health sciences education and practice.

Requirements

  • American Library Association (ALA) accredited master's degree or other advanced degree(s) appropriate to the position.
  • Experience searching biomedical literature such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, or Google Scholar.
  • Experience providing reference or educational services.
  • Experience designing and conducting presentations to groups.
  • Experience providing user-focused public services.
  • Flexibility to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of professional library experience in a public, academic, or biomedical library.
  • Interest in health sciences librarianship or public health.
  • Knowledge of citation management software and screening tools like EndNote and Covidence.
  • Experience performing literature reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with various constituencies.
  • Experience with or interest in working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as library liaison to the UAB School of Public Health.
  • Offer instructional services, including teaching classes and designing instructional materials.
  • Provide general reference services, including answering online reference questions.
  • Provide specialized reference services, including in-depth consultations and mediated database searching.
  • Contribute to the library's support of expert-level reviews and participate in research projects.
  • Develop and maintain specialized knowledge of the library's databases and resources.
  • Stay current with health sciences education trends and pedagogical methods.
  • Serve on internal and external committees and participate in professional organizations.
  • Engage in research and scholarship as required of UAB Libraries faculty.
