About The Position

Under general supervision performs any work required for the construction and maintenance of all types of dead or energized conductors, structures, plants and equipment employed in the production and distribution of electrical energy, such as: Installing, testing, removing or replacing motors, generators, rotaries, rectifiers batteries, transformers, regulators, reactors, circuit breakers, disconnecting switches, instruments, relays, lighting equipment, lightning arresters, and other allied equipment with control apparatus. Testing, operating, repairing or replacing penstocks, spillways, raceways, headgates, dams, water turbines and other similar types of hydro station equipment and apparatus. Installing, removing or replacing underground and overhead systems, including cable splicing, insulating, oil testing, welding, minor plumbing for air, oil, water, or steam, driving truck, operating winch, painting, excavating, making and placing forms for concrete work, etc. Installing, removing or replacing lighting systems apparatus, in streets, yards, or buildings. Performing other related or less skilled work as directed. Directs the work of others assisting him. If three or more other l/c Line or UC&M Men or qualified helpers, or a crew of four or more other employees are under his direction for a period of four hours or more, he shall receive a substitution bonus or be temporarily upgraded to Chief UC&M Man.

Requirements

  • Should have had at least three years' experience as Utility Construction and Maintenance Man-Second Class, or its equivalent, as determined by appropriate tests.
  • Must be able to perform semi-routine operations of considerable complexity and variety where standard methods of procedures are available.
  • Equivalent of Associates’ Degree in Applied Science in Electrical Technology or a related field from a degree program approved by the company or by achieving a passing score on a test designed by the company or a provider approved by the company
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with Company Electrical and Mechanical Tagging Rules.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with this company's Safety Rules and approved methods of resuscitation, on or off the ground, and be able to render practical First Aid.
  • Must be able to qualify for automobile operator's license.
  • Normal health, physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by Company physician, including color perception.
  • Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to meet public in pleasant, tactful manner.
  • Should possess temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision and patience are particularly essential.
  • Should possess temperament and qualifications needed to perform under a widely varied routine.
  • Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours and/or a shift schedule.
  • Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Must be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
  • Must be able to plan work of fairly wide scope.
