About The Position

The role involves acting in lieu of the regular classroom teacher and performing the duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor. The substitute teacher is responsible for completing the duties and tasks of the absent teacher, managing classroom behavior, and maintaining an environment conducive to good learning. This includes following lesson plans provided by the teacher, checking class rolls, and notifying the school office of any serious problems experienced during the day. The substitute must also adhere to safety procedures and guidelines of the campus, report on time, and be flexible in covering different assignments as needed.

Requirements

• Teaching certification OR
• Bachelor's degree OR
• Minimum of 60 college hours
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Speak, write, read, and comprehend English
• Punctuality and dependability
• Flexibility in the job assignment

Responsibilities

• Complete the duties and tasks of the absent teacher.
• Prevent students from leaving the room unless it is absolutely necessary.
• Check the class roll at the time and in the manner designated by the campus.
• Contact the school nurse if a student needs medical attention.
• Notify the school office of any serious problems experienced during the day prior to leaving the campus.
• Assume the same responsibilities as a regular classroom teacher for students, equipment, and other assigned materials.
• Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher as closely as practical and maintain the regular routine of the class.
• Leave a summary of work covered in each class and other information pertinent to the teacher.
• Manage classroom behavior to maintain an environment conducive to good learning.
• Notify an administrator if additional assistance is needed.
• Abide by the Substitute Teacher handbook.
• Be flexible and willing to cover a different assignment if the campus needs.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines of the campus.
• Report on time, report for any assigned duty, work through the end of stated sub hours.
