This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. Under the direction of the Teen Director, the Tween Club Assistant provides excellent member service by directing the Teen Department by demonstrating strong leadership skills in program development, supervision, organization, planning and communications. The Tween Club Assistant assures the well-being for each participant in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and association policies in accordance with their training.

  • Create an environment of interest, confidence and support, within which children can grow.
  • Assist Lead Program Staff to further develop existing programs, new programs and/or program locations and enrollment.
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, children and other staff members; be a positive role model.
  • Use the Eight YMCA Core Content Areas to plan and implement quality camp programming curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Oversee supervision of all children; Maintain that children are supervised at all times and never left alone.
  • Assist with and/or oversee positive reinforcement and behavior management of children.
  • Maintain a physically and mentally safe environment from children, maintain housekeeping of site at all times.
  • Actively support and participate in YMCA functions as notified by the Teen Director.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings, giving input on programming issues.
  • Maintain fully stocked and accessible first aid kit.
  • Educate and reinforce safe kitchen practices with camp participants.
  • Follow and enforce association and departmental policies, including the substitute policy.
  • Actively pursue training and learning opportunities and certifications relating to the position.
  • Work or volunteer experience working with tweens ages 9 to 12 years of age.
  • Must complete annual safety, combating sexual-harassment, and child abuse prevention trainings assigned by human resources prior to direct service.
  • Must have current CPR and First Aid.
  • Must attend and complete New Employee Orientation within the first 90-days of employment.
  • Possess the ability to work well with children, teens and adults to ensure high quality program results.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle multiple demands simultaneously with minimal direction.
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service, decision-making, problem solving, team oriented, creative thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret and effectively communicate document, information and instructions such as safety rules, membership procedures, customer service, YMCA promotion and programs, and YMCA policies and procedures etc.
  • Possess a general knowledge and understanding of YMCA, its goals, and its mission.
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule to include evenings and weekends.
  • $15.50/hour
  • M-F 2:30 pm to 6 pm
