About The Position

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is dedicated to ensuring a secure water future for Texas and its citizens. The TWDB provides water planning, data collection, financial assistance, and technical assistance services to address the state's water resource needs amidst significant population growth and the threat of severe drought. This position involves performing highly complex geosciences or hydrological work, including the development and calibration of numerical groundwater flow models, analysis of groundwater modeling results, and preparation of technical reports. The role requires adherence to processes and standards, as well as the use of programming scripts and GIS software.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Hydrology, Water Resources, Geology, Hydrogeology, Natural Resources, Geography, or a related field.
  • Five years of work experience in a related field.
  • Must be licensed as a Professional Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists for Geoscientist II position.

Nice To Haves

  • Eight years of work experience in a related field.
  • Experience in groundwater modeling using MODFLOW and/or FloPy.
  • Experience in programming in Python.
  • Familiarity with the Groundwater Modeling Program.
  • Experience with GIS applications, preferably ESRI ArcPro software.
  • Experience with geostatistical methods.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and reviews technical data, analyzes findings, and assists with data calculations.
  • Conducts scientific hydrogeological investigations for water resource management decisions.
  • Studies and documents groundwater and surface water quantities and distribution.
  • Maintains and prepares records and reports, presenting technical evaluations and plans.
  • Implements technical projects and completes design preparation, plans, estimates, and calculations.
  • Develops or uses hydrogeologic models for various applications.
  • Reviews activities of contractors funded through the Groundwater Modeling Program.
  • Researches and delivers written and verbal responses to public inquiries.
  • Adheres to and develops quality assurance procedures.
  • Trains or mentors others as needed.
  • Maintains required certifications and licenses.
