About The Position

The TV News Producer at KSTP 5 Eyewitness News is responsible for writing and producing newscasts, ensuring high-quality broadcast content that meets the standards of the station. This role involves making creative decisions about story selection, organization, and presentation, while collaborating with various newsroom staff to deliver timely and relevant news coverage.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Construct and plan daily newscasts by organizing, writing, selecting, and making creative decisions for assigned live newscasts.
• Make decisions about stories to be included, their duration, format, and order of presentation.
• Write and rewrite stories as needed, ensuring all aspects of the newscast are complete before airing.
• Plan for contingencies and meet deadlines to ensure smooth newscast operations.
• Enter information for story choices into the newsroom computer system and notify staff of any changes or special situations.
• Write and post stories to the website and other media platforms, frequently updating online content.
• Shoot and edit videotape for broadcast as needed.
• Communicate frequently with newsroom staff about the newscast and any changes being made.
• Motivate staff before and during the newscast, responding well in crises and during breaking news.
• Make decisions about the timing of a live newscast and communicate changes to the production team.
• Complete post-show paperwork and tasks, including technical trouble reports and archiving.
• Attend editorial and strategic meetings, contributing story ideas and interacting professionally with others.
