The Tutorial Assistant plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing the tutor program at North High School. This position involves scheduling, hiring, training, and recordkeeping for tutors, as well as serving as a liaison between students and teachers. The Tutorial Assistant is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the tutoring program and supporting the academic success of students through effective tutorial sessions.

  • Interview prospective tutors and monitor the hiring process for School wide and AVID tutors.
  • Schedule and train School wide and AVID tutors.
  • Support District AVID tutor training.
  • Maintain and submit time cards for School wide and AVID tutors.
  • Provide input to administration regarding the effectiveness of individual School wide and AVID tutors.
  • Determine logistics of School wide tutorials, including room assignments and student sign-up processes.
  • Communicate with South High staff about the tutorial program, including participation, attendance, and progress.
  • Assist in developing a resource file of enrichment materials for tutorials.
  • Model effective tutorials for South High staff.
  • Facilitate or assist during tutorials in AVID classes and other designated periods.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation of the School wide tutorials.
  • Serve as a liaison to students and teachers, including classroom observations and course content requirements.
  • Coordinate the Student Coach program within the school.
  • Manage the budget for the tutoring program.
  • Assist the College and Career Coordinator as needed.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience with tutoring students, particularly in AVID methodologies.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks and adapt to changing assignments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to make accurate calculations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Experience working with a diverse population and motivating students.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with honors and Advanced Placement course materials.
