The Tutor for STEM at Springfield Technical Community College is responsible for providing individualized tutoring support to students in various STEM subjects. The role emphasizes developing students' skills and strategies for independent learning while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. Tutors will also participate in training sessions and assist with STEM Center activities as needed.

  • Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to students (tutees).
  • Provide students with strategies to approach a problem or study STEM subjects.
  • Develop and modify tutoring skills to meet students' needs and adjust to their learning styles.
  • Provide tutees with various strategies to help them become independent learners.
  • Attend a pre-semester mandatory training.
  • Attend weekly training meetings throughout the semester.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of each tutoring session using required software and online documentation.
  • Model appropriate behavior by maintaining professionalism while tutoring.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship.
  • Become knowledgeable of the STEM Center's services and procedures to assist students.
  • Provide other services as needed such as front desk coverage and participation in STEM Center activities.
  • Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0.
  • Grade of B+ or higher in relevant subject area(s).
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and lead others towards understanding in the course(s).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other tutors, diverse learners, and supervisors.
  • Exhibit patience and a genuine desire to facilitate understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Available to work a minimum of 5 hours per week.
  • Salary: $15.75-$16.25 per hour
  • Part Time Up to 18.5 hours per week
