About The Position

The Tutor Monitor at Chesterfield County Public Schools provides a structured and supervised environment for students in the In-School-Detention (ISD) program. This role focuses on ensuring the safety and order of students while assisting them with their academic assignments. The position requires the ability to manage sensitive situations and maintain discipline in a classroom setting, working independently to support students' educational needs.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent training or experience sufficient to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Some knowledge of academic subjects and school board policies and procedures, particularly regarding ISS regulations and practices.
• Demonstrated ability to tutor and supervise students in a disciplinary setting and handle sensitive situations.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, and staff.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and assume responsibility without direct supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with classroom assignments collected from the teacher and checks work for completeness and accuracy.
• Monitors classroom behavior and oversees lunch and bathroom breaks while maintaining isolation from other students.
• Develops and presents classroom assignments and materials for students during ISD.
• Schedules students for ISD classes and completes pupil contracts, ensuring compliance and maintaining attendance records.
• Redirects students when necessary to maintain focus and ensure successful completion of ISD.
• Refers students to appropriate personnel according to established procedures and communicates with parents and teachers regarding behavior issues.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
