About The Position

Acme Industries is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer specializing in CNC Turning processes to support complex contract machining operations across aerospace, energy, heavy equipment, and industrial markets. This role is responsible for developing, programming, and optimizing vertical and horizontal turning processes, with a strong emphasis on process ownership, cycle time reduction, quality robustness, and scalable production readiness. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience programming and supporting multi-axis turning platforms - including turn-mill - and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering or CNC programming experience focused on turning
  • Demonstrated expertise with: Vertical & Horizontal Turning processes
  • CNC programming experience using TopSolid or comparable CAM
  • Strong understanding of: Cutting tool selection, Speeds/feeds optimization, GD&T interpretation, Blueprint reading.
  • Experience supporting production in a machining environment
  • Ability to work directly with operators and machinists to resolve issues

Nice To Haves

  • Turn-mill / mill-turn programming experience
  • Experience in contract machining or high-mix production
  • Aerospace or regulated manufacturing experience
  • Fixture and workholding design capability
  • Knowledge of process validation / FAI support
  • Exposure to automation or lights-out strategies

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for CNC turning operations
  • Vertical turning centers
  • Horizontal turning centers
  • Multi-axis turn-mill platforms
  • Create and maintain CNC programs using TopSolid (or equivalent CAM systems)
  • Design tooling, fixturing, and workholding strategies
  • Lead process prove-outs and first-article execution
  • Drive cycle time and throughput improvements
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and quality issues on the floor
  • Collaborate with operators, quality, and engineering teams to ensure stable production
  • Support quoting through manufacturability input and time estimation
  • Document process standards and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with customer and regulatory quality requirements (e.g., AS9100 environments)
