About The Position

The Turnaround High School Math Teacher at Democracy Prep Public Schools is responsible for fostering an academic environment that promotes excellence and prepares students for college success. This role involves engaging in turnaround work to elevate the educational experience of students on the historic westside of Las Vegas, focusing on high academic and behavioral expectations, strong family partnerships, and effective lesson planning to ensure student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (required).
  • 2 years of teaching experience (preferred).
  • State certification (preferred).
  • Commitment to the Democracy Prep mission of college success and civic engagement.
  • Ability to hold scholars to high behavioral and academic expectations.
  • Experience in data analysis to drive instructional decisions.
  • Deep content-area expertise in mathematics.
  • Strong lesson planning skills with a focus on high-quality curriculum execution.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to build an academic powerhouse on the historic westside of Vegas.
  • Focus relentlessly on grade level rigor in all courses, including ACT prep and Dual Enrollment opportunities.
  • Create an inclusive classroom and school community by engaging in training and dialogue around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Serve as an advisor to a core group of scholars and provide weekly updates to families on academic progress and attendance.
  • Plan and prepare for effective implementation of a coherent, vetted, research-based curriculum.
  • Incorporate ACT practice into all core curriculum classes and facilitate Dual Enrollment classes as assigned.
  • Develop and use a variety of assessment data to refine curricula and instructional practice.
  • Use education technology to support student learning with rigorous curriculum.
  • Maintain strong relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues through effective communication.
  • Continuously improve professional practice through coaching sessions and collaborative reflection with teams.
  • Tutor students up to two days per week after school and participate in required professional development sessions.
  • Cultivate the social-emotional well-being of all scholars by building a positive classroom culture.
  • Foster active citizenship through community service and celebration of scholars' culture and identity.
  • Engage in whole-school events and tasks as assigned by school leadership.
