About The Position

The Turbine Operator is responsible for the safe, environmentally sound and efficient daily operations of the facility and performs assigned routine inspections and manipulative operations without close supervision within well-defined boundaries. Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least one year’s experience as an Auxiliary Operator/Power Plant Operator.
  • Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate in English.
  • Must have experience working with boilers.
  • Must have sound knowledge and clear understanding of the mechanical characteristics of the equipment and must have demonstrated the ability to apply this knowledge in both routine and non-routine operations.
  • Must be able to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

  • Must understand the principles of operation, function and construction of turbine-generators and associated equipment, balance of plant equipment, water chemistry principles and plant electrical distribution and protection.
  • Must complete operator qualification package (OQP) within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces
  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with previous experience in the Waste-to-Energy or other applicable industry, may have certain portions of the OQP waived by the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility is to operate and monitor three boilers and one turbine generator.
  • Performs boiler, closed cooling water and circulating water chemical tests and takes appropriate action to maintain system within prescribed limits during periods when the Water Chemist is not on site.
  • Performs daily routine inspections of assigned equipment and completes necessary log sheets according to well-documented procedures.
  • Performs troubleshooting on equipment and reports all malfunctioning equipment through the issuance of work orders.
  • Performs lockout and tag-out of equipment in support of maintenance activities and safety protocols.
