About The Position

The Turbine Controls Field Service Engineer (FSE) will participate as a Regional Service Team member responsible for providing the best service for our customers across the USA and Canada. The Lead Turbine Controls FSE will manage all resources and logistics required to perform services and maintenance activities on customers' site/property. These activities contribute to, maintain, repair, and refurbish sold or existing products. Includes all types of maintenance service (preventive and remedial), manage maintenance facilities and field services engineering. The Lead FSE is responsible for project specific operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. This role functions with some autonomy but is guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial automation or Electronic Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Must have experience in one or more of the following: turbine control solutions (MkV, MkVI, MKVIe), HMI upgrades, and TIL implementation.
  • Minimum 3- 5 years of field engineering experience in power generation, industrial plant automation, DCS (distributed control system), PLC (programmable logic controller) and/or similar industry sectors.
  • Previous industrial field service experience.
  • Controls experience to equipment that functions as a prime mover.
  • Electronics and/or mechanical trouble shooting skills.
  • Computer skills, familiarity with MS Office, TCP/IP configuration.
  • Ability to learn other software tool applications to support HMI and application changes (Cimplicity, Intellution, Toolbox, GAP, etc.).
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 80% domestically, but may include international plant sites.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb 10 flights of stairs twice per day.
  • Ability to pass respirator fit test and physical.
  • Ability to pass Fitness for Duty requirements and site security requirements to obtain unescorted access.
  • Ability to work under high stress conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to work in radiation-controlled and radioactively contaminated areas.
  • Ability and willingness to work 12 hrs./day and 7 days/week when needed for project delivery.
  • Ability to work in various physically demanding conditions, including hot or cold environments, confined spaces, and situations requiring climbing stairs or working at heights.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and passport.

  • Prior mechanical / maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision requirement; able to work independently; ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to troubleshoot control and instrumentation systems at all levels, from field devices to control system, and networking.
  • Must be able to generate immediate credibility with customers, suppliers, GE project management / engineering communities.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills with excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • Customer-focused skills, demonstrated by experience in field services, customer services or project management, are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support execution of retrofit projects including installation, power up, and commissioning of one or more of the following: turbine control solutions (MkVI, MkVIe), and TIL implementation.
  • Support warranty administration and troubleshooting issues.
  • Addresses customer service requests and leads customer issue resolution during warranty and post-warranty periods.
  • Be responsible for pre-planning, site scheduling, field engineering, commissioning, control system startup, and project handover to customers.
  • Works closely with project managers, customers, and supplier representatives to ensure financial performance, quality project installation, timeliness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Respond to customer call out services requests.
  • Timely completion of service time sheets, trip reports, invoicing packages, and other administrative requirements including pre-mobilization and de-mobilization meetings and procedures.
  • Work closely with other functions to identify and register change order opportunities as well as review proposals for new opportunities, formulate and present GE solution to customers.
  • Interface with GE Power Services, GE Industrial, and other GE Businesses.
  • Significant travel and over-time will be expected up to 50%.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Secondary duties may possibly include participation in FAT (factory acceptance test); participation in development of overall controls strategy for projects; design of hardware and software configuration packages according to project requirements; design of operator interface graphics and network topologies; release of system design to manufacturing.
