The Tunneling Survey Party Chief is responsible for providing precise surveying support for tunneling projects, including monitoring tunnel alignment, controlling excavation progress, and ensuring compliance with design specifications. This role requires collaboration with engineering, construction, and geotechnical teams to support safe and accurate tunnel construction.

Requirements

  • Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities for construction stakeout of Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Drainage, Roads
  • Proven experience in tunneling or underground construction surveying.
  • Proficient with surveying instruments and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, total stations).
  • Strong understanding of tunnel construction methods and geotechnical principles.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Travel to project sites as required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience utilizing VMT, ATIS, guidance systems preferred.
  • Experience with TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) projects and knowledge of surveying for shafts, cross-passages, and underground utilities is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Under direction, coordinates the activities of a field survey party; performs the most technically complex paraprofessional field surveying duties; and performs other duties as required.
  • Conduct surveys for tunnel alignment, profile, and excavation control.
  • Monitor and report tunnel deformation and settlement during construction.
  • Set out tunnel portals, shafts, and other structures.
  • Ensure survey data accuracy and maintain detailed records.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and project teams to resolve alignment and design issues.
  • Use total stations, GPS, laser scanning, Gyro and other surveying equipment.
  • Prepare survey reports, drawings, and as-built documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
