About The Position

GFT is seeking an experienced Tunnel Ventilation Engineer to spearhead our tunnel ventilation and life safety system engineering team. This is a strategic leadership role focused on technical excellence, business development, and team growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the vision, expanding capabilities, and delivering innovative solutions for complex road and transit tunnel life safety and tunnel ventilation design projects across transportation and infrastructure sectors. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our New York City office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • PE license in good standing.
  • 15+ years in mechanical engineering design and analysis.
  • Proficiency with CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, FDS).
  • Familiarity with NFPA 130, NFPA 502, Applicable International Design Standards, Egress Analysis, and CO/NOx Air Quality Design
  • Familiarity with tunnel fire safety and emergency ventilation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record in leadership and team development.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Division Leadership: Grow the tunnel ventilation engineering team, including hiring, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide advanced engineering design and analysis for tunnel ventilation systems, including CFD modeling, fire/life safety assessments, and compliance with national codes and standards.
  • Business Development: Collaborate with senior leadership to identify new markets, develop client relationships, and secure major projects.
  • Project Delivery: Oversee design, implementation, and quality assurance for ventilation and life safety systems in road, rail, and utility tunnels.
  • Innovation: Drive adoption of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices in ventilation and life safety system design.
