About The Position

The Tumbler Operator will be responsible for operating industrial tumbling equipment to deburr, polish, clean, and finish metal parts, castings, or other manufactured items. This hands-on role ensures high-quality surface finishing while maintaining safety, efficiency, and consistent production standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime with short notice when required
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and are expected to complete required tasks in a timely and organized manner
  • Strong work ethic with drive and initiative to operate equipment unsupervised, manage workflows efficiently, and contribute to continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating industrial machinery, preferably tumblers, or similar equipment in manufacturing.
  • Mechanical work experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Setup, load, and unload tumbling machines with parts, abrasive media, compounds, and any required liquids according to job specifications.
  • Follow 5S Principles: Sort: Remove unnecessary items from the work area to maintain a clutter-free environment. Set in Order: Organize tools, materials, and equipment for easy access and efficient workflow. Shine: Keep the workplace clean and tidy, ensuring machines and work areas are free of debris and hazards. Standardize: Follow established procedures to maintain consistency in 5S practices across shifts. Sustain: Participate in regular audits and training to uphold 5S standards and promote continuous improvement.
  • Operate vibratory or rotary tumblers, monitoring process parameters such as time, speed, amplitude, and media condition to achieve desired finish results.
  • Inspect parts before and after tumbling using tools like calipers, micrometers, or visual checks to ensure quality standards for deburring, polishing, smoothing, or rust removal are met.
  • Make necessary adjustments to machine settings or tumbling cycles to maintain consistent quality and address any issues during operation.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tumbling equipment, including emptying barrels, separating parts from media, rinsing, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Sort, separate, and organize finished parts from media using hands, magnets, screens, or other methods.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection), lockout/tagout procedures, and safe handling of chemicals/media.
  • Other duties as assigned.
