About The Position

Squarespace empowers people with creative ideas to succeed. As a Trust & Safety Lead, you will support this mission by working to keep our platform safe and compliant. You will learn and keep apprised of global technology laws and policies, communicate with our users and third parties, and work closely with our Legal team. You will also collaborate with our Engineering and Customer Operations teams. This role reports into our Trust & Safety Senior Lead and is based in our New York headquarters. You’ll Get To... Respond to legal requests and allegations of abuse and misuse of Squarespace’s services, including law enforcement inquiries, intellectual property infringement allegations, and complex privacy matters, ensuring every case is handled with total accuracy. Develop and refine Trust & Safety (T&S) policies and procedures that scale with the business, ensuring the team is equipped to handle evolving global regulations and platform growth. Work closely with Customer Operations, Product, Engineering, and Risk teams to ensure successful launch of new products and features, including advocating and integrating necessary T&S features, functionality and workflows. Spot risks in new product offerings, reviewing upcoming launches to make sure our team can support them safely as the business expands. Serve as a crisis lead for T&S incidents, using company policies to make recommendations, coordinating response, documenting decisions, and advising leadership. Translate complex investigations, data, and risk assessments into clear, actionable updates for senior stakeholders. Act as a subject matter expert for T&S tools, enforcement frameworks, and industry trends, and share knowledge with Legal and cross functional partners. Monitor the broader Trust & Safety landscape, including regulatory developments and peer company approaches, to inform internal strategy.

Requirements

  • 4-6+ years of Trust & Safety experience at a global internet or technology company, with direct experience handling high-stakes escalations and complex workflows.
  • Strong working knowledge of global internet law and policy, including copyright & trademark, privacy, content moderation, platform level regulation (e.g., TAKE IT DOWN Act, EU Digital Services Act), and global trends.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Trust & Safety industry, including current trends and competitor approaches.
  • Excellent written communication skills, and ability to present complex fact scenarios, risk assessments and proposals to executive stakeholders.
  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to make objective, evidence-based decisions in "gray areas" where policies may not be clearly defined or where complex and myriad roles, permissions, product offerings and systems are in consideration.
  • Comfortable in dealing with explicit and/or objectionable content.
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm and decisive during a crisis.
  • Product fluency and interest in how T&S integrates into platform design and user experience.
  • 4 year degree (BA/BS)
