About The Position

The Trust Advisor position focuses on providing fiduciary solutions to Centers of Influence (COIs), bank clients, and prospects of City National Bank (CNB) and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). The role involves current trust administration, investment management, and planning opportunities in various trust accounts, including testamentary and inter vivos trusts, Charitable Trusts, Conservatorships, Guardianships, Life Insurance Trusts, Private Family Foundations, Special Needs Trusts, and other Agency accounts. The Trust Advisor will perform initial legal and trust administration reviews of all potential new trust or investment business and partner with Business Development colleagues to ensure proposed new relationships align with CNB's risk appetite and can be managed effectively. As part of the Private Banking Division, the Trust Advisor will deliver tailored financial solutions to high- and ultra-high-net-worth families, select professional services firms, and nonprofits, emphasizing exceptional service and integrated strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 10+ years of experience in a financial or legal services organization.
  • 10 years of experience in trust administration.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.
  • JD, LLM or other legal designation/degree preferred.
  • Completion of Trust Certificate and/or CTFA preferred.
  • 12 years of experience in trust administration helpful.
  • 12 years of experience in a financial or legal services organization helpful.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of CNB personnel, clients, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to profile clients with an emphasis on retaining business.
  • Familiarity with state tax laws and income taxation with respect to trust investment management principles.
  • Demonstrated strategic team player.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to anticipate needs and proactively seek solutions.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • PC literate and familiar with trust accounting systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Perform a legal and administrative review of all potential new business.
  • Meet sales goals around sales expectation.
  • Work with Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and Financial Consultant colleagues to gather necessary information and documentation.
  • Build strong relationships with key COIs, Bankers, and Financial Advisors.
  • Work with external advisors and attorneys to expand trusts brand and garner larger market share within the region.
  • Set proper expectations with all internal and external partners around timing and progress of new opportunities.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for problem resolution.
  • Manage risk to ensure all relationships are within CNB's risk appetite.
  • Provide regular tracking for review of new business activities.
  • Meet regularly with existing income beneficiaries and remaindermen to profile clients and ensure retention of distributing trusts.
  • Interact with and provide guidance to Real Property Managers, CPAs, Trust Counsel, Portfolio Managers, Bankers, Investment Advisors, and other bank colleagues.
  • Obtain missing documents from clients.
  • Work with appropriate colleagues to develop investment strategies.
  • Oversee distribution of client’s assets upon termination of accounts.
  • Respond to clients, advisors, and intermediaries regarding the administration and maintenance of accounts.
  • Maintain a proactive commitment to established Bank programs.
  • Comply fully with all Bank Operational and Wealth Management policies and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements.
  • Follow appropriate Regulation 9 process.
  • Maintain all appropriate training and continuing education requirements.
