About The Position

Lumber Specialties, founded in 1983, operates multiple facilities in Dyersville, Story City, Osceola, Iowa and Kirkland, Illinois, encompassing over 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space on 64 acres. The company specializes in producing roof and floor trusses, wall panels, and supplying engineered wood products, steel beams, and laminated columns to customers across the Midwest. Lumber Specialties is a division of US LBM, a leading distributor of specialty building materials in the United States. The Truss Sawyer I role involves operating and maintaining cutting equipment within the CNC/sawyer department. This individual is responsible for precisely cutting materials, ensuring the functionality of equipment, and conducting quality assurance inspections on final products. US LBM, established in 2009, has grown from 16 locations to over 400 nationwide, making it the largest privately owned full-line building products distributor, combining national scale with a local market approach.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as automated saws/CNC, staplers, nail guns, routers, various saws, and a crane.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure and use a hammer.
  • Ability to troubleshoot/problem-solve.
  • Effective communication within the team and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of compliance to quality and safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training in woodworking or machinery preferred.
  • 1-3 years of prior shop experience in component assembly preferred.
  • Experience in operating cutting machinery preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in woodworking or carpentry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, calibrate and maintain cutting machines (saws and CNC) to prepare materials including truss, cabinet, roof, floor, door, or panel systems.
  • Monitor inventory and flow of materials and supplies relating to assembly process.
  • Inspect and ensure equipment functionality daily to prevent malfunctions and notify leader of any equipment issues.
  • Interpret shop drawings and/or computerized production software.
  • Examine final products to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Organize and store materials efficiently.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize workflow.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
  • Adhere to Company’s commitment to workplace safety.
  • Participate in and complete assigned trainings.
