About The Position

The Truss Designer III is responsible for delivering high-quality, precise structural designs that meet customer specifications while aligning with Wilson Lumber Company’s mission of operational excellence and Christlike principles. By leveraging advanced design tools, this role ensures timely project execution, promotes cost-efficiency, and strengthens relationships with stakeholders. The Truss Designer III also mentors less experienced designers, contributing to team development and continuous improvement. The Truss Designer III operates at the Madison, AL location with minimal travel (<25%) to job sites. This role requires close collaboration with internal teams and customers to deliver superior structural solutions, driving Wilson Lumber’s strategic goals of customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and market leadership.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in truss design, CAD, or framing, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and collaborate effectively.
  • Proficiency in advanced design software and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Minimum of 5+ years in truss design, CAD, or jobsite framing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Alpine, MiTek, or similar software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed and accurate designs for roof trusses, floor trusses, beams, and LVL/I-Joists using software such as Alpine or MiTek.
  • Oversee complex projects, ensuring designs meet building codes, customer requirements, and budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with customers to clarify design needs and deliver optimal solutions.
  • Serve as a technical advisor during project discussions, ensuring customer satisfaction and fostering trust.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers, sharing best practices and fostering professional growth.
  • Lead training sessions on advanced design software and techniques.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the design workflow to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage.
