About The Position

The Truss Designer is responsible for producing detailed floor and roof truss placement plans, design drawings, and quotes based on customer requirements and blueprints. This role involves ensuring design accuracy through a double-check system, optimizing shop paperwork for manufacturing efficiency, and adhering to building codes to ensure safety and compliance. The designer will also communicate technical aspects with customers and sales staff, utilizing advanced math skills and CAD software to fulfill project specifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3+ years of Truss Design and Draft experience in the Construction and Building Industry.
  • Highly proficient in MiTek software.
  • Minimum education of High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Produces floor and roof truss placement plans, truss design drawings, and truss quotes based on blueprints and customer requirements.
  • Determines design specifications based on blueprints and structural design needs.
  • Reviews other designers' work as part of a double-check system to reduce design errors before manufacturing.
  • Creates optimized shop paperwork for efficiency based on manufacturing equipment.
  • Communicates with customers and sales staff on technical aspects of plans requiring clarification.
  • Documents communication with customers, architects, or engineers using Excel spreadsheets and saved emails.
  • Follows building codes to ensure safety and compliance with industry standards.
  • Utilizes advanced math skills for calculations related to lengths, weights, angles, and CAD software.
  • Consults with experienced technicians and management for in-depth analysis when necessary.
  • Plans and paces work efficiency to meet productivity goals.
  • Observes safety procedures to prevent injuries and recommends improvements.
