About The Position

Madison County Highway Department: Truck Driver FLSA Status: Non-exempt Job Status: Full-Time Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. M-F or 6:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. during chip seal season

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid CDL license or obtain it within one year of employment and can legally operate all department vehicles.
  • Knowledge of and ability to Operate trucks and related equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of the mechanics of light and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for working in or around heavy equipment and/or working around traffic.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Operates various types of trucks and related equipment, including tractors, loaders, and dump trucks, to maintain and repair roads.
  • Loads and dumps crushed stone, sand, and salt from trucks and remove them from county roads using appropriate equipment.
  • Regularly checks trucks and equipment to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functions.
  • Patches, chips, and seals roads; digs ditches, scrapes, grades, and maintains road berms and shoulders, including replacing ditch tiles and pipes as needed.
  • Operates mowers and functions as heavy equipment operator and/or laborer as needed. Performs related duties as assigned.
