About The Position

This position is responsible for: Drives Salvation Army truck along the scheduled route to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers; operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations; lifts, carries, loads, and unloads a variety of donations, including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc., ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times; assists in performing work in the family store and warehouse.

Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not required
One (1) year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van, or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid State Driver's License.
Certified Fork Lift Operator

Responsibilities

Reviews scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location.
Organizes scheduled pick-ups by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.
Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Maintains good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into the truck; packs items in the truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety (this applies to donors’ property as well, so that door facings, etc., and outside areas (including trees) are not damaged.
Unloads donations from the truck upon arrival at the warehouse; distributes items to the appropriate locations in the warehouse.
Pays close attention when backing up the truck; follows directions of the Truck Helper so as avoid accidents.
