About The Position

Penske Truck Leasing is seeking highly motivated and qualified applicants for the unique position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role involves delivering and returning vehicles, including box trucks up to 26 feet, and for CDL Class A holders, tractors and trailers, to Penske locations and customers. The position may also assist the service department with parts and equipment delivery. This is a casual/on-call part-time truck driving job, ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers looking for supplemental income, with hours ranging from 0 to 25 per week based on business needs.

Requirements

  • 2 years of driving experience required
  • 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required
  • Valid Class B CDL required. Applicants must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in their state of residence
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions is required
  • Ability to work independently, customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude are required
  • English language proficiency in order to be compliant with federal law (49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2))
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Maintain a current driver qualification file as required by DOT regulations, including an annual motor vehicle records (MVR) check, a successfully completed DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records request from prior employers in the last 3 years
  • CDL holders will have a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and subject to a FMCSA Clearinghouse review
  • Willingness to travel as necessary
  • Willingness to work the required schedule
  • Willingness to work at the specific location required
  • Complete Penske employment application
  • Submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  • Ability to accept responsibility for their own safety, as well as the safety of others

Responsibilities

  • Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to destination of Penske location or customer locations
  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, report to location manager if any issues are found
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
