About The Position

This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for those in need, and provide opportunities for giving and service by helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant, providing access to essential food and clothing items, helping members prepare for and respond to disasters, and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering, thus furthering the mission of the Church. Under the direction of the driver manager, and in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, the incumbent operates a heavy-duty truck-tractor with semi-trailer hauling commodities for the Welfare Self-Reliance Department and General Church throughout the United States and Canada.

Requirements

  • Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Ability to operate a heavy-duty truck-tractor with semi-trailer
  • Member of the Church who is worthy of a temple recommend

Responsibilities

  • Driving over-the-road (OTR) in a safe manner by conducting daily vehicle inspections
  • Performing simple maintenance
  • Completing safety training
  • Pre-planning routes
  • Following all traffic laws
  • Working within Federal Hours of Service guidelines to deliver on-time
  • Traveling far from the home terminal for multiple days
  • Being deployed to help in disaster areas for extended weeks to distribute emergency response supplies
  • Loading and unloading trailers
  • Refueling and cleaning the vehicle
  • Finding ways to maximize payloads
  • Conserving resources such as diesel fuel
  • Serving as company advocates and church ambassadors in every interaction with customers and the public
