About The Position

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 375+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the Truck Driver role in our Jessup, MD facility. JOB SUMMARY The Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery and pick up of bulk and packaged materials to and from suppliers and customers. The primary duties include, but are not limited to: 1. DELIVERING/PICK UP OF MATERIALS: Safely and efficiently deliver or pick up bulk and packaged materials from suppliers and customers, adhering to all legal and fuel-efficient driving practices.  Exercise sound judgement in response to weather and road conditions to ensure timely and secure transport.  Assist with loading and unloading trailers, including climbing ladders, rolling tarps, and entering trailers for cleaning as needed.  Perform drop and hook operations, including disconnecting hoses and operating trailer landing gear.  Ensure all materials are handled with care and in compliance with safety protocols.  2. PAPERWORK: Maintain accurate and up-to-date logbooks in compliance with FMCSA regulations, including Driver’s Trip Records and fuel usage reports.  3. COMMUNICATION: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of truck and trailer to identify and report any defects or maintenance issues.  Coordinate with the Dispatcher to establish and adjust trucking schedules.  Communicate updates regarding changes in delivery, pickup, or unloading times to ensure smooth operations.  4. PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: Stay current with commercial driving regulations and continuously develop required skills through training and self-education.  Attend and actively participate in scheduled driver and safety meetings.  Build and maintain positive relationships with customers and suppliers, providing feedback to support service improvements.  Set personal development goals and collaborate with team members to promote continuous improvement and teamwork.  Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. 

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A.
  • Clean driving record with a strong safety history.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with dispatchers and interacting with customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing ladders, rolling tarps, and lifting heavy materials.
  • Experience with trailer operations, including drop and hook, hose disconnection, and landing gear operation.
  • Commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
