This role contributes to fostering self-reliance, caring for those in need, and providing opportunities for giving and service. This is achieved by helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant, providing access to essential food and clothing items, assisting members in preparing for and responding to disasters, and delivering humanitarian aid to alleviate suffering, thereby furthering the mission of the Church. Under the guidance of a driver manager and in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, the incumbent operates a heavy-duty truck-tractor with a semi-trailer. The primary responsibility is hauling commodities for the Welfare Self-Reliance Department and General Church across the United States and Canada. Duties include safe over-the-road (OTR) driving, conducting daily vehicle inspections, performing simple maintenance, completing safety training, pre-planning routes, adhering to traffic laws, and working within Federal Hours of Service guidelines to ensure on-time delivery. OTR drivers travel extensively, often away from the home terminal for multiple days, and may be deployed to disaster areas for extended periods to distribute emergency response supplies. Compensation is based on a piece rate for miles and stops, and drivers are responsible for their own meals and hygiene items, sleeping in their tractor. Additional expectations include loading and unloading trailers, refueling and cleaning the vehicle, optimizing payloads, and conserving resources like diesel fuel. Drivers are expected to act as company advocates and church ambassadors in all interactions with customers and the public.
