Under supervision of a crew leader, lead worker or Division Supervisor, this role involves operating less complex, light to medium sized equipment in the Maintenance and construction in the Public Works Departments, and performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work. This classification is differentiated from the Heavy Equipment Operator by the more routine and less diverse nature of assignments performed. Essential functions include operating various forms of trucks, performing routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, referring needed repairs to Supervisor, maintaining equipment in a clean and orderly manner, performing minor maintenance and repair work on equipment as an aid to operation, and performing a variety of manual laborer duties at work site. Duties specific to Operations may include being assigned to trucks and/or light to medium equipment used in the construction and maintenance of streets, clearing snow, and hauling materials. Mental work efforts involve applying oral and written instructions, requiring independent decisions, and assuming responsibility for the proper operation of equipment which may impact the ability of the work unit to complete work in a timely and safe manner.
