About The Position

The Truck Driver I drives light trucks with GVW of 10,001 to 15,000 and/or other vehicles to transport materials to and from specified destinations. A Truck Driver I is responsible for loading and unloading donations, securing cargo, maintaining vehicle logs and inspections, and communicating with dispatchers to ensure efficient routing. A Truck Driver I ensures compliance with all safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license (type 3).
  • Current forklift certification.
  • Must have a traffic abstract that meets company guidelines, pass a DOT physical, functional capacity exam, and be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must retain Type 3 license, forklift certification card, and current PUC card on their person at all time when working.

Responsibilities

  • Driving a GVW truck weighing 26,001 pounds or more
  • Responsible for safe vehicle operations, driving, and crew safety at all times.
  • Drives truck to destination. Prepares donations receipts at house pick-ups or miscellaneous deliveries, if needed.
  • Identifies unusable material (UM) and advises donors of alternative means for pick up.
  • Loads and unloads material from vehicle by using a hand truck or dolly
  • Responsible for safely operating the lift-gate when up-loading and down-loading cargo.
  • Coordinates load movements with the truck helper and other crew.
  • Loads vehicle, distributes weight evenly, forms compact load, organizes assorted donations and effectively utilizes space.
  • Positions pads, stacks and secures items on truck to prevent damage to goods and positions blocks and ties rope around items to secure cargo during transit.
  • Completes and maintains truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
  • Completes and maintains vehicle maintenance sheets by performing daily inspections of vehicle, equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. Reports any unsafe conditions immediately to the department supervisor.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with dispatcher or lead person to receive delivery/collections instructions.
  • Observes vehicle operations policy including state and federal regulations.
  • Is knowledgeable and familiar with streets and locations on the island of Oahu.
  • In case of an emergency, notifies the office by radio and performs emergency roadside repairs such as, installing light bulbs, while maintaining proper safety procedures at all times.
  • Operates other forklift trucks and vehicles as required, if currently certified.
  • Keeps outside areas clean and neat. Organizes all assorted donations, metals, furniture, and bins.
  • Conducts work in a safe and responsible manner, utilizing personal protective equipment (i.e. gloves, support belt) and/or equipment (i.e. hand truck, dolly) when appropriate. Complies with all safety standards.
  • Responsible for awareness of and adherence to all company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
