About The Position

Akima Facilities Operations is currently seeking a Truck Driver, Heavy (Ammo Delivery) to support Eagle LSS contract in Fort Hood, TX. Requirements

  • Commercial Driver’s License w/ Hazmat Endorsement.
  • 4+ years of truck driving experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CAC.
  • Ability to receive a favorable T1 investigation determination upon hire.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Ability to complete Ammunition Courses: AMMO 75, 112, 67, 45, 31, 63, 68, and 64.
  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, climbing, bending, squatting, and reaching.
  • Must be willing to work in all types of weather.
  • Heavy Truck Driver: Straight truck, over 4 tons, usually 10 wheels.
  • Work environment includes periodic overtime, exposure to heat, dust, cold, inclement weather conditions, and areas with chemical or biological agents.
  • Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices.
  • Must wear steel toe/safety shoes at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable in U.S. Army maintenance procedures.
  • U.S. Army 88M series MOS qualification or civilian equivalent.
  • DOT accident-free record.
  • Drug free work ethic, with random urinalysis support.
  • 2+ years of forklift experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • The Truck Driver, Heavy primarily transports, loads, unloads, stacks and stages ammunition, including rockets and ammunition residue.
  • This driver may load or unload truck with forklift or other material handling equipment.
  • Reviews paperwork and conducts inventory to ensure accuracy of load. Ensures loads are properly secured and the truck is properly placarded.
  • Conducts daily vehicle inspections to ensure it is safe to transport ammunition. Makes minor mechanical, operator-level repairs to keep truck in good working order and reports deficiencies.
