The primary role of a host is to effectively support the entire restaurant team. Responsibilities include monitoring the open dining sections of the restaurant and cafe for empty and cleaned tables, estimating wait times for guests, monitoring the guest waiting list, and ensuring that the needs of the guests are met while they are waiting. The host is often responsible for answering the telephone and booking reservations. These job duties require style and service attributes that are key to creating a positive guest experience. As a Host, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the entire restaurant team while setting the tone for every guest’s experience. You’ll greet guests immediately upon arrival with warmth and professionalism, manage reservations and waitlists, and ensure guests are seated efficiently and fairly using the organized seating chart. You’ll monitor open dining sections for clean and available tables, estimate accurate wait times, and communicate effectively with servers and management to avoid overloading any one section. In addition, you’ll answer phones, book and confirm reservations through OpenTable, prepare for large parties, and complete daily confirmation calls. Throughout each shift, you’ll maintain a welcoming hostess stand, stay knowledgeable about menus, specials, hotel offerings, and local attractions, and ensure all guest interactions are handled with care, efficiency, and professionalism.
