About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Trolley Supervisor, the Trolley Operator is responsible for transporting passengers in a safe, courteous manner, observing and complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This position is also responsible for vehicle pre/post trip inspection for proper functioning of the vehicle and maintaining cleanliness throughout working shift. This position is 100% focused on FTA grant-funded transit activity.

Requirements

  • Exceptional customer service skills are needed.
  • Must be available at least two Saturday per year for training purposes.
  • Knowledge of: State and local traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in the operation of vehicles.
  • Ability to: Read maps and follow directions.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • One (1) year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to read maps and follow directions.
  • Must be familiar with State and local traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in the operation of vehicles.
  • Thirty (30) days of hands-on operation of passenger vehicle as defined by Class B CDL with passenger endorsement.
  • Must possess a Texas driver’s license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
  • Must possess or obtain a Class B CDL with passenger endorsement within the 180-day probationary period and maintain such throughout employment.
  • 30 days of hands on operation of passenger vehicle as defined by Class B CDL with passenger endorsement.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen and physical.
  • The Texas Administrative Code (2) requires that individuals holding a CDL must have 20/40 or better vision in both eyes, and not be colorblind.
  • An individual may apply for a vision waiver if they have 20/40 or better distant binocular accuracy with or without corrective lenses.
  • Hearing requirements include being able to detect vehicle horns, emergency vehicle sirens, and train signals.
  • The Texas Administrative Code (2) requires that individuals holding a CDL have good hearing.
  • Must be available at least two Saturday per year for training purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Township transit vehicle safely and smoothly, transporting passengers along a fixed route transportation corridor, or along other routes that may be assigned by the Trolley Supervisor.
  • On fixed routes make stop announcements to passengers upon approaching prescribed destinations.
  • Assure compliance with all applicable Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) laws and regulations.
  • Assure cleanliness of vehicle before, during, and after shift. Sanitation of vehicle may be required throughout shift, as needed.
  • Follow instructions from Trolley Supervisor and promptly communicate any issues or concerns to them.
  • Complete daily vehicle pre/post trip inspections via mobile device.
  • Report for duty promptly in proper uniform and physical condition and be ready to work any route assigned.
  • Provide information to passengers concerning the Town Center Trolley program and/or the Township area in a helpful, courteous, efficient manner.
  • Use proper etiquette to assist all passengers, including those with disabilities. Requested assistance may include the loading and unloading of motorized and non-motorized vehicles, scooters, strollers, and other assistive devices via vehicle lift or ramp.
  • Use correct safety procedures to operate vehicle lift or ramp and secure wheelchairs, scooters, and other assistive devices.
  • Accurately prepare and complete all required logs and reports including reports on traffic accidents and passenger incidents.
  • Operate a two-way radio system in accordance with the regulations of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).
  • Utilize other communication systems as prescribed by the Trolley Supervisor and as set out in the Trolley Operator Manual ie: cell phones, radios, and Mobile Data Terminal (MDTs).
  • Maintain the standards of The Woodlands Township, including but not limited to the Drug & Alcohol, ADA, EEO, Title VI, Code of Conduct and safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
